RCA recording artist Tinashe’s debut album “Aquarius” is finally released with much anticipation and she surely did not disappoint. “Aquarius” builds on Tinashe’s three previously released mixtapes “In Case We Die”, “Reverie” released in 2012 and “Black Water” released in 2013. The album features soft, sultry vocals, interludes, features and great production from Mike Will Made It, DJ Mustard, A$AP Rocky, Devonte Hynes among others. The entire album is centered around a storm theme which Tinashe has been promoting for some time now. The album has 20 tracks which features interludes that adds to the overall theme. Aquarius is the most cohesive Pop/Urban/R&B release for quite some time. It’s hard to place a specific genre on Tinashe’s music as she experiments with a multiplicity of sounds but predominantly Aquarius would appeal mostly to Urban/R&B listeners.
Stand out tracks: “2 On (feat. Schoolboy Q)” (one of the hottest songs of summer 2014)
“Bet (feat. Devonte Hynes)”
“Pretend (feat. A$AP Rocky)”
“All Hands on Deck” ( this song has the greatest potential to become the next single)
“Feels Like Vegas”
Overall Aquarius scores 8/10. It’s a very decent debut from the 21 year old West Coast native, with a refreshing sound. We wish for her a successful and promising career in the music industry.
